The ADSS welcomes members from diverse scholarly backgrounds

Membership Guidelines

Membership is open to death studies scholars who are:

  1. Affiliated with an Australian university or research institute;

  2. Conducting research in Australia and are affiliated overseas; or,

  3. Independent scholars

Membership is open to scholars at all levels of seniority. Members who are graduate research students and above are eligible for listing in the Expert Bank. Members who are death studies scholars are eligible to nominate for election to all positions on the Executive Committee.

The ADSS also welcomes associate members. Associate membership is open to individuals or organisations who are interested in research, study, or teaching in the field of death studies, but who are not engaged in the academic study of death (e.g. practitioners). Associate members do not have voting rights within the Society.

Applicants must be nominated by a current member. If you are not currently in contact with a member, please contact the committee to make an introduction.

All interested parties not eligible for membership are encourage to join the ADSS mailing list (below).

Membership Fees

At the ADSS AGM in December 2020, annual membership fees were set at $50/year (waged) and $20/year (unwaged). Membership fees are for a financial year.

The annual membership fee for associate members is $50/year.
